Sammy Keyes and the Wild Things

The DBTRC has eight copies of this book.
LOCATION: St. Jerome

VAN DRAANEN, WENDELIN
SAMMY KEYES AND THE WILD THINGS

Sammy Keyes trades in her high-tops for hiking boots -- and winds up with blisters.

This is not the summer camping trip of Sammy's dreams. She imagined shady glades, meandering streams, a deer or two. But she ends up in a phony forest with scrubby scrubs, blazing sun, rattlesnakes, scorpions, and eco-nutty Girl Scouts. Her fellow campers are clutching binoculars, desperate to catch a rare glimpse of an endangered condor. But Sammy's seen a picture of a condor and that's enough for her -- ugliest bird on the planet!

But when they find an injured condor, Sammy's intrigued at last -- she can spot a mystery even without binoculars. Sammy and two other girls stray from their group to track down a clue, but wind up lost. They do find two boys from school out backpacking. Which gets them out of the frying pan and into the campfire! Now there are three girls and two boys lost in the middle of a canyon with one tent and six billion biting flies. Oh -- and one armed and dangerous high-stakes poacher. S'mores anyone?
